2012 Rule of Law Reception marked US-Asia Institute’s most all-encompassing reception of the summer, with special guests from China and distinguished former members of Congress.
The China-U.S. Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) and the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC) partnered with the Association of Foreign Members of Congress to send five former House members to meet with leaders from National People’s Congress, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Beijing. They shared with the guests their latest impressions from an extensive travel to Beijing, Changsha, and the surrounding countryside and their outlook towards the future.
Also, we celebrated and recognized the 2012 Rule of Law students visiting from China. Since 2008, US-Asia Institute and J. Matthew Szymanski have hosted 13 top Chinese law students in Washington, D.C., and connected them with 28 senators, 33 representatives, 202 staff, 44 administration officials, 9 judges, 4 court staff, and 74 lawyers, scholars, and private sector hosts.
Congressional staff was also recognized for their participation in the China 101 Seminar Series, an introduction for Congressional staff hosted by the U.S.-China Working Group and the US-Asia Institute.
