US-Asia Institute Hosts 4th IMPACT! Leadership and Democracy Training Delegation

The US-Asia Institute welcomed the fourth delegation from the IMPACT! Leadership Training and Exchanges for Mongolia’s Emerging Leaders Program from March 25-29, 2019, in Washington, D.C. As part of a five-year leadership and democracy training initiative in Mongolia, the program empowers Mongolia’s emerging young leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to run for office and lead in public service.

The IMPACT! delegation participated in a week of comprehensive training in the areas of leadership, democracy, media, and campaigning. Through roundtable discussions with experts, delegates learned about U.S.-Mongolia Relations, political parties, U.S. government structure, and the value of democracy. Representatives from elite universities and esteemed consulting firms led interactive training workshops that allowed the delegates to practice their new leadership, campaigning, and media skills. The delegation also had the opportunity to speak with Congressman Don Young, the co-chair of the Congressional Mongolia Caucus.

In addition to their leadership and democracy training, the delegates were treated with cultural excursions around Washington, D.C., and Ocean City, Maryland. Delegates enjoyed opportunities to visit D.C. museums, tour the U.S. Capitol and Library of Congress, and view the Atlantic Ocean.

At the conclusion of their weeklong training, the delegates participated in a graduation ceremony and reception. Surya Gunasekara of the US-Asia Institute Congressional Circle presented certificates for the delegation’s hard work.

The US-Asia Institute would like to thank all of the delegates for a wonderful week of training. We also would like to thank all of the experts for sharing their expertise with the delegation. USAI wishes the delegation the best of luck in their future endeavors!
