JAPAN-SOUTH KOREA RELATIONS THROUGH A TRILATERAL LENS

In this briefing, Korea expert Dennis Halpin, Institute for Corean-American Studies (ICAS), and Japan expert Mindy Kotler, Asia Policy Point, discussed the dynamic relationship between Japan and South Korea.

The briefing opened with Jeremy Haldeman, USAI Congressional Circle Member, who introduced the panelists. Mindy Kotler walked the audience through a detailed history of Japan and South Korea’s relationship leading up to the current tensions between the two nations. Dennis Halpin further elaborated on the current problems facing Japan and Korea relations, and how these problems are rooted in their complicated past. Over 100 people attended the briefing, highlighting the importance of this key relationship for the Washington, DC community.
