The US-Asia Institute and the National Committee on North Korea hosted an exclusive virtual Congressional briefing focusing on key areas of interest concerning North Korea, prospects for US-North Korea negotiations, and the current humanitarian situation in the country on Monday, October 4th at 1:30 pm EDT.
This webinar addressed the current political challenges to US-North Korea relations and the humanitarian situation in North Korea. With a new administration in the US and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, now more than ever there is a need to understand the thinking of North Korean leadership, explore the policy options available to the United States, and examine the humanitarian situation in North Korea.
Expert speakers provided a high level overview of the key political challenges on both sides of the Pacific, evaluating the Biden administration's policy implementation and the obstacles to and opportunities for diplomatic negotiation. They also discussed the latest on public health, food security, and COVID-19 related issues in North Korea, as well as the role of US humanitarian NGOs.
This program is open exclusively to Congressional Staff. Those with portfolios and general interest in foreign affairs, the Asia-Pacific, or more specifically, the Korean Peninsula, are highly encouraged to attend. Congressional staff interested in the recording should email usai@usasiainstitute.org.
