Japan 2022: Political and Economic Landscape of the Indo-Pacific Region

In the first session of Japan 2022, a prominent expert, Dr. Mireya Solis, Director, Center for East Asia Policy Studies, The Brookings Institution, delivered key insight into the US-Japan relationship during 2022 and beyond. Additionally, Minister Tomoaki Ishigaki, Minister of Congressional Affairs for the Embassy of Japan in Washington DC, delivered his own insight in the field of US-Japan Affairs provided insights into the implications of the Japan’s economic agenda and how U.S. engagement in the region might evolve in the coming years under China and other Indo-Pacific nations’ influence. The conversation centered around a variety of important issues in the region, including trade, security, international development, and climate change policy, how these policies have been handled in previous and current administrations, and how we can see certain layers of change and continuity in US policy.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, this first event will be held virtually. However, all future roundtables will be held in person at the US-Asia Institute (232 East Capitol St NE, Washington, DC 20003). We look forward to hosting you for these important conversations on the US-Japan relationship.
