Japan 2022 - Session 2

Japanese Energy and Climate Policy

This session of the Japan 2022 briefing series features Mr. James L. Schoff, Senior Director fo the “US-Japan Next Alliance Initiative” at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA and Ms. Emma Chanlett-Avery, Specialist in Asian Affairs at the Congressional Research Service to discuss security partnership between the United States and Japan, it’s evolution, and the context for defense policy developments.

Hosted by the US-Asia Institute, the Japan 2022 Briefing Series was designed as an off-the-record, invitation-only series of roundtables for Congressional staff with emerging interest in the US-Japan relationship and related policy area. These roundtables offer unique opportunities for staff to gain knowledge of the relationship while engaging with US-Japan experts. Featuring insightful speakers from the U.S. government, business, and academic communities with special guests from the Embassy of Japan to the United States, Japan 2022 was developed for legislative aides, correspondents, and assistants. The series launched on January 27, 2022 and will continue with more conversations throughout the year. Covering all policy areas important to the US-Japan relationship--ranging from national politics, defense, trade, energy, environmental issues and more-- staffers will gain invaluable insight in an off-the-record and highly personal setting right off of Capitol Hill.

If you are an interested Congressional staffer wishing to attend, please email alec.bohlman@usasiainstitute.org to RSVP. Space is limited.
