Each summer since 2008, the US-Asia Institute’s J. Matthew Szymanski Rule of Law Program has brought Chinese law students to Washington, D.C. for a four-week intensive program designed to expose them to the institutions and officials of the US government and legal system.

2013 | Congressional Black Caucus to China
10 members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), led by Chair Marcia Fudge, traveled to China in August 2013 on a Congressional delegation organized by USAI. Upon returning home, the CBC drafted a special memorandum of understanding with Madame Wu Yi, Vice Premier of China, to bring students from historically black colleges and universities to China. This was a $1 million program.

2015 | Creation of Global Leadership Board
Initiated in 2015 to boost US-Asia Institute’s outreach in the region and its ability to facilitate communication and understanding, the Global Leadership Board (GLB) is comprised of prominent Asian leaders who provide invaluable advice on USAI’s programs and diverse perspectives on the region. The GLB also provides insight into how the Institute can best work to fulfill its mission across the region.

2015 | INAUGURATION OF THE THAI-AMERICAN NATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Former Thai Ambassador Pisan Manawapat initiated TANIP to provide Thai-American students with the opportunity to intern/shadow in various offices of elected officials or public agencies at the national level. This experience will develop a stronger understanding of how government operates by experiencing it from an insider’s perspective.

2017 | SIF Connects! Dialogue and Reception
The Singapore International Foundation (SIF) Connects! is an annual event to reconnect with friends of Singapore in the United States. In partnership with USAI, SIF held a dialogue titled Strengthening Meaningful Connections between the US and ASEAN, to mark ASEAN’s 50th anniversary and 40 years of US-ASEAN relations in 2017.

2019 | USAI 40th Anniversary Celebration in China
On August 20th, USAI celebrated its 40th anniversary at the historic Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing. Four Congressional delegations participated in the Dialogue which focused on Sino-US Relations: Rebuilding Trust. Rep Dina Titus and Madam Fu Ying were present.

2019 | Fall Delegation Reunion Reception
More than 10 Congressional staff, Members and friends of USAI attended a special Fall Reunion Reception on September 24, 2019 in Washington DC. The US-Asia Institute hosted this China delegation reunion reception welcoming back CPIFA #125, NPC #15, NPC#16 and Members #10. The reception also served as another important platform for past delegates who have traveled to China with USAI to reconnect.
